Welcome to our website

Located on the Wirral peninsular, Merseyside, Thornton Hough is an idyllic village surrounded by farmland and rolling countryside.

The Trust is a community group working hard to preserve and protect the parish of Thornton Hough including, Brimstage, Raby, Raby Mere and Storeton.

THE TOILETS

As members are aware,  we have an ongoing issue with WBC about maintaining the public toilets on the village green.

Since covid the toilets have only been open at weekends during the football season or when we have requested them to be opened for a special event,  although this has not always happened,  leading to the classic car club having to hire a portable toilet at a cost to the club.

Representatives of the Trust have attended council meetings and held a meeting on site with members of the Environment committee whose remit public toilets falls within.

The Trust has arranged for community payback (this is people on community service who take on projects) to carry out any decorating and light maintenance work, this is free from costs for labour and materials.  Thanks to Councillor Povall for helping to arrange this.

After thinking our representations were being listened to and supported we were presented with a likely cost of reopening being in excess of £30k,  which of course is a huge amount and out of our ability to raise.

After further negotiation, it turns out that the building is sound and the fixtures and fittings are perfectly fine,  so the only work would be be to replace the door and add a pay per use terminal - hopefully making the facility self funding into the future.

The cost of this work is around £7500,  the trust has said we will raise this money through grants and other sources,  the work will be carried out by the council and appointed contractors once finalised.

Further updates will follow.....

A CHRISTMAS EVENING

Thank you to all who supported our Christmas evening on the 28th November in the WI Hall.

We were a little thin on the ground both the band and those who came along,  never the less we had a lovely evening singing carols and enjoying mulled wine and mince pies.

The Evening raised funds towards the Christmas Lights appeal.

CHRISTMAS LIGHTS 2025

Each year Thornton Hough Community Trust arranges and funds the Christmas Lights through the village.

We do this with the support of local businesses and other kind supporters each sponsoring a tree.

We also need funds from our generous neighbours to complete the fund raising - this year has cost in the region of £7000 creating a truly magical display.

REMEMBRANCE SUNDAY 2025

Thank you to everyone who attended the Remembrance Parade and Service on 9th November, it was such a poignant and respectful occasion.

ROAD SAFETY UPDATE

Over the last few months you will have noticed the changes to speed limits and works on roads adding safety features including "dragon teeth" and 20 mph limits.

The Trust has worked tirelessly with WBC to ensure the new measures are effective and address concerns of the community.

We would like to thank WBC highways team for the hard work and openness in working with the Trust on this project.

GREEN FLAG 2025

Once again we are delighted to have had the Green Flag awarded to our beautiful village green.

Our congratulations and thanks go to the wonderful parks and gardens team who care for and maintain our green fabulously.

Our village was the first village green in the country to be awarded the Green Flag and we have won it every year since.

JOIN OUR CAMPAIGN TO MAKE THORNTON HOUGH SAFER

As we are all too aware, the roads around our village are extremely dangerous,  more so as a result of speeding vehicles and inconsiderate driving.

With the support of our local councillors and Merseyside Police we will do everything possible to make our village safer.

Community Speed-watch, fully trained by the police to monitor speed of vehicles through the village, regularly carry out sessions reporting all speeding vehicles to the police.

First report - offenders receive a letter, second report - a further letter, third report - a visit from a police officer.
